Week 4: Disciples Baptize

When Jesus was leaving he left a couple ordeninces for the church.
1.

2. There is much confusion about this.

[Mat 28:18-20 ESV] 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

[Eph 4:4-5 ESV] 4 There is one body and one Spirit–just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call– 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

[Luk 23:41-43 ESV] 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

[Rom 10:9-10 ESV] 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

[1Jo 1:9 ESV] 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

[Act 2:36-38 ESV] 36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” 37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

So what is baptism?
The biblical method of baptism: the word baptize is from the greek word “baptizo” that means to immerse, dip, or submerge…

[Jhn 3:23 ESV] 23 John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized

5 Reasons People are Disobedient:
1. Ignorance… Not taught properly
2. Hindered by time or space
3. Spritual Pride
4. Rebellion
5. Lost

[Act 2:38 ESV] 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

[Act 2:40-41 ESV] 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” 41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

[Act 10:47 ESV] 47 “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”

The Biblical Meaning of Salvation: Symbolic1
1. It’s not salvation
2. Has nothing to do with church membership
3. It is an outward expression of an inward change

[Rom 6:3-5 ESV] 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

[Col 2:12 ESV] 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.
