Worship in Truth (Oct. 6)

Read: Joshua 1:6-9

Worship must be based on Scriptural truth.

One of the roles I have within the church is volunteering as a Livestream Tech and musician for the Media team. A benefit of being on this team is that I can hear the sermon multiple times on a Sunday while also speaking with others about the upcoming move. Many new and exciting things are coming for the Media team with the new building. New equipment, a new sanctuary specifically designed for our services, and with all that, fewer (hopefully!) issues with technology. It is hard not to imagine the constant possibilities of a new church building!

Those that know me know that I try to embrace change; I love seeing if there is something that we can do differently that brings improvement. However, I can easily get caught up in the transition and forget why we did things initially. When I reflect on why CBC has been able to be so successful in building firm believers, I see our commitment to scripture and God’s truth. No matter who is on the podium, the congregation is guided through a lesson reviewing scripture for our better understanding. CBC is not the type of church that has a sermon series dedicated to eliciting a specific emotional response, but instead studying scripture and letting the Holy Spirit bring about emotions to further our relationship with God.

Joshua was told, “be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success (or act wisely) wherever you go.” (NASB, parentheses added) As I’ve said, I can get caught up in the excitement of change. God reminds me that in moments like this, do not forget “the law,” and do not forget the guidance He has provided. God is giving me more responsibility to remember His scripture and not forget what I can do with these changes. When I am on stage or in a room making sure the Livestream is working, is my focus on God or the task I was assigned? God can use my excitement for change and new technology to increase His impact on others.

Action Step: When thinking about the upcoming move, what opportunities excite you? Maybe you feel nervous about the move and how we as a church body may adapt to the new space and community. As a nation, Israel certainly didn’t adjust easily or quickly to entering the Promised Land. Write down ways that CBC can stay rooted in scripture while also embracing new opportunities. How is CBC currently using scripture to encourage our journey with God? Finally, how will you be involved within our church body to ensure scripture does not “depart from your mouth”? We can worship God knowing that He is with us, and His scripture doesn’t change wherever we go!

Prayer: Father, I pray that you give us wisdom as a church body and individually. We celebrate knowing we can worship you at home, in a sanctuary, or in another land. Your scripture doesn’t change with the culture; it doesn’t change because of location. We know that you are constant and never changing. Use us in ways we can’t even imagine, strengthening and growing your Kingdom through this new opportunity. Father, I ask for your encouragement through this transition and that I always remember who You are and my purpose while on Earth. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
