JAMES – FAITH FOR TODAY!
A FAITH THAT PRAYS! – Week 10
James 5:13-18
The only person who dares wake up a king at 3:00 AM for a glass of water is a child. We have that kind of access.
What would happen in our lives and the world around us if we made prayer a daily habit?
WE ARE CALLED TO
James 5:13-14 (ESV)
13Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
14Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
Philippians 4:6 (ESV)
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Ephesians 6:18 (ESV)
praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)
casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
WE MUST
James 5:14 (ESV)
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
James 5:16 (ESV)
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Matthew 18:20 (ESV)
For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
Matthew 18:19 (ESV)
Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
James 5:17-18 (ESV)
Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.
James 5:17-18 (ESV)
Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.
Elijah was a man who prayed and expected God to work and move through his prayers!
James 4:2 (ESV)
You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.
And maybe our prayers go unanswered because we do not expect anything to happen or change!
James 5:15 (ESV)
And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Here’s the point. Healing is a gift, not a reward. We are not in charge of God, appeasing to His healing powers with just the right prayers and the right amount of faith hoping we eventually hit the jackpot.
