Your Next Step Is A Baptism

The bible shows us that there are significant times in the life of someone who accepts Jesus experiences the Holy Spirit. These experiences are described as baptisms.
Baptize means: to immerse.

1. Baptism of

When we receive the gift of salvation and give our lives to Jesus we’re baptized into the Body of Christ.

1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. —1 Cor 12:13 NKJV

Joh 20:19 That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said.
Joh 20:20 As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!
Joh 20:21 Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”
Joh 20:22 ** Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.** —John20:19-22 NLT

Verse 22 shows us the gift of the Holy Spirit recieved with the Gift of Salvation.

Gal 3:26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. —Gal:3:26,27 NLT

2. Baptism in

Why Baptism in water?

Mar 1:9 It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
Mar 1:10 And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove.
Mar 1:11 Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” —Mark 1: 9-11 NKJV

Mat 28:20 **Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.

Mar 16:15 And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.
Mar 16:16 Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. —Mark 16:15,16

Water Baptism is an sign of and inward Salvation. It is “going public” with the decision to go “All In” for Jesus.

Water Baptism is a of identification and ownership

Rom 6:20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right.
Rom 6:21 And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom.
Rom 6:22 But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. —Romans 6: 20-23 NLT

Baptism provides a setting for spiritual breakthrough in your circumstance.

3. Baptism the

Also refered to as the Infilling of the Holy Spirit or Receiving the Holy Spirit

Act 8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.

Act 8:15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.
Act 8:16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Act 8:17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. —Acts 8 nkjv

Joh 7:37 On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!
Joh 7:38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”
Joh 7:39 (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.) —John 7

WAITING for the promise (Rivers of Living Water)

Act 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;
Act 1:5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” —Acts 1:4-5

The Coming of the Holy Spirit

Act 2:1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. —Acts 2:1-4

Each of these three baptisms serves a different purpose.

A. The Baptism of confirms that our sins are forgiven and we are on our way to heaven if we die. This provides the believer with an internal witness that we are saved.

B. Baptism is the public declaration of our identity in Jesus. We are saying to all who witness our baptism in water that we are ALL IN followers of Christ!

C. The Baptism in the empowers us to minister and serve others here on earth. The baptism in the Holy Spirit gives us power to witness and power to overcome!**

Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
Act 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent,(FIRST BAPTISM) and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins (SECOND BAPTISM); and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (THIRD BAPTISM)
Act 2:39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Act 2:40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”
Act 2:41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. —Acts 2:37-41 NKJV:

How Do I Recieve The Baptism IN the Holy Spirit?

1. Must Be Born Again -Romans 8:9

Rom 8:8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Rom 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Rom 8:10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. —Romans 8:8-11 NKJV
2. Must Ask or Desire To be baptized in the Holy Spirit - Luke 11: 5-8:13
Luk 11:5 And He said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves;
Luk 11:6 for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;
Luk 11:7 and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you’?
Luk 11:8 I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.
Luk 11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” —Luke 11:5-8,13 NKJV
3. Must Surrender to Jesus - Romans 12:1
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. —Romans 12:1 NKJV
4. Must be willing to obey the Holy Spirit - Acts 5: 32
Act 5:32 We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him.” —Acts 5:32 NLT
5. Must Believe - Galations 3:2
Gal 3:2 Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ. —Gal 3:2 NLT
6. Must Exercise what God has given you - Acts 2:4

Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. —Acts 2:4 NKJV

4. Baptism in the Holy Spirit. (Because we ).

Act 4:29 And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word.
Act 4:30 Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
Act 4:31 After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. —Acts 4:29-31 NLT
