Covering Chapters 44 and 45 in Skye Jethani’s “What If Jesus Was Serious “
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[e] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. —Matthew 6:31-34 (NLT)
Do not be enslaved by fear
Fear is the root of polarization. —Dan White Jr
- Fear sells because it energizes people
- Jesus is not dismissing fears he refocusing people to God’s character
- Love is what overcomes our enslavement to fear
- 1 John 4:18
Don’t let fear block our love, generousity and care for others
- Fear can lead us to scarcity mindset, which energizes protectism, self-preservation, self-centerness
- this can keep us from living a generous life
- the danger is when we allow our fears to be our dominate focus
- Seek first (dominate focus) the kingdom of God (recognizing God’s presence)
