Each Revival or Awakening leaves its own mark or signature in the world. In the Third Great Awakening in 1857 businessmen and prayer took center stage. The 1906 Azusa Street revival was interracial. The Jesus Movement and the Charismatic Renewal of the 60’s and 70’s was marked by great moves of God in the youth and in the colleges of America like in the Asbury College Revival. The 90’s revivals were marked by renewed love and passion for the Father and brought a great refreshing to the church and burned out ministers. Yet all these revivals share common threads woven through each move of God.
Part One Review:

2. Prayer
3. Preaching of the Word

5. The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit
6 THE GLORY of GOD and THE GLORY FOR GOD: God receives praise, honor, and glory. God’s glory is demonstrated in many ways such as lives being transformed, miracles taking place, His presence and Shekinah Glory being witnessed.
What is the “Glory?” The tangible presence of God. The demonstration of God’s power.
John 11:40(NIV) 40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”
Isaiah 60:1-3 (NKJV) Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. 3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.
7 MANIFESTATIONS from the Presence of God: A manifestation is how we react to the increased presence of the Holy Spirit.
Isaiah 64:2(NKJV) 2 As fire burns brushwood, As fire causes water to boil— To make Your name known to Your adversaries, That the nations may tremble at Your presence!
8 REFORMATION AND RENEWAL: Reformation means radical change, the reforming of an institution or society. Renewal- to resume activity; to return to, as in to our first love.
Titus 3:5(NKJV) 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.”
The word Regeneration literally means “a new beginning” or a “new genesis”. It means a “return to existence” or a “coming back from death to life.”
Romans 6:4(NKJV) “Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
The Philippian Jailer Saved
Acts 16:25-34(NKJV) 25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”
29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.
9 MESSY: Revivals can be messy, even controversial. People sometimes disagree with what’s going on because it’s not what they are used to. God got out of their religious box.
The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles
Acts 10:44-48(NKJV) 44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
Then Peter answered, 47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
10 Revivals are Cyclical- meaning they crest and wane over time. Some last for months or a few years and other last for many years. Even though a revival may wane, the effects of revival will last decades if not centuries. Many ministries, missionaries, Bible schools and training centers have been launched out of revival and are still equipping saints today.
Daniel 2:20-22(NKJV) 20 Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. 21 And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding. 22 He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him.
While the decision belongs to God alone, He gives us the privilege of hastening the day through humble repentant prayer.
2 Chronicles 7:14(NKJV) 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
