What once allowed us to truly LIVE was turned backward and became EVIL.

1) What did God intend for us and what did we lose when we chose our own way?

He invited us to work with Him in caring for His creation.

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and care for it. (Genesis 2:15)

…rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth and over all the creatures that move along the ground. (Genesis 1:26)

2) It was a blessing to have children because it meant more of His image bearers to care for and steward His creation.

“God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28)

What happened when we chose to decide for ourselves what is good and evil?

What was once a blessing for us to LIVE was REVERSED. It has become EVIL.

3) Creation turned from working with us to be set against us.

“Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life” (Genesis 3:17)

“By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food” (Genesis 3:19)

4) What was once a blessing from God to multiply became a curse.

“I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children.” (Genesis 3:16)

5) Our blessing of living together in unity was reversed and we blamed one another for our sins.

“This is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh”. (Genesis 2:23–24)

… turned into …

“The woman you put here with me, she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it”. [(Genesis 3:12)] (https://www.bible.com/bible/111/gen.3.12)

Even in the midst of the brokenness we see God providing a way for Redemption.

The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. (Genesis 3:21)

God’s unexpected redemption can be seen in the reversal of EVIL making a new way for us to LIVE again. This new life is found in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
