The Conversationalist
The Parable of the Mustard Seed

Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables.

—Matthew 13:34 NLT

31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

—Matthew 13:31-32

So What?

INSIGNIFICANCE… not big enough

32 Though

of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

—Matthew 13:32

For What?

INCONSPICUOUS … not visual enough

32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds,

, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

—Matthew 13:32

Now What?

IMPOSSIBLE … not powerful enough

32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and

, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

—Matthew 13:32

Next Steps:
1. Today, I make a decision to follow Jesus for the first time.
2. I will read the Parable of the Mustard Seed and ask God to speak to me. (Matthew 13:31-32, Mark 4:30-32, Luke 13:18-19)
3. I am struggling because there seems to be nothing happening.
4. I will continue to invite people to church and believe God is going to do His work in their life.
