Engage
Read Luke 4:1-13. What is the strategy that Jesus uses to endure the attacks of Satan? How can you (or have you) engaged in that same strategy in your life?

Read James 4:7-8. Evaluate your hunger for God. When do you find yourself most hungry for closeness with Him? What have you done in response to that?

Apply
Satan takes things that are good and pivots them toward unhealthy roads. Share some general examples of things that are good that have potential to pivot.

Wolfgang said, “the sin is not in the temptation; it’s in the giving in to the temptation. We all wrestle with it.” The vulnerability of sharing what you wrestle with is helpful but having a strategy for winning is essential. What strategies do you use when faced with temptation? Would you be willing to share how they have worked or what areas of improvement you need to address?

Dr. Henry Cloud says, “most bad choices have to do with what feels good now versus what will be better later”. How does this help you when faced with temptation?

In the After Party, Brandon asked what are some healthy ways you have found that help you process and find escape routes?

What passage could you memorize to repeat in the face of temptation? (See the Bonus section for some additional ideas.)

Pray
God, we thank you that we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses but one who has been tempted yet without sin. Thank you God that we can draw near to you with confidence and receive mercy and find help in time of need. Thank you for your incredible love for us Jesus. Amen (Hebrews 4:15-16)

Bonus
As you look at your life and where you can repeat Scripture in the face of temptation, perhaps some of these verses could help you. Join with a friend in memorizing one this week.
