Matthew 18:6 NIV
6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

John 8:36 NIV
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Freedom — being healed and breaking free of anything that has or could hold you back from running in freedom and faith towards the future God has for you – His purposes, His presence, His people and His promises for your life.

God’s heart for you — Freedom from the pain of your past, condemnation and legalism, strongholds of sin, inner vows, word curses, mental strongholds, and generational iniquities (mindsets or patterns of behavior that may have been unintentionally handed down to you).

The freedom of Jesus is comprehensive:

Isaiah 61:1 NIV “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.

Prisoners: things we actually did

Captives: things done to us

Jesus came to set us free from both!

The call to move forward and leave the past behind:

Genesis 12:1 NIV The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people (relatives) and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

Don’t Settle…

Genesis 11:27-28 NLT 27 This is the account of Terah’s family. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot. 28 But Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, the land of his birth, while his father, Terah, was still living.

Genesis 11:31 NLT
31 One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there.

Ways We Settle:
1. In a place of pain – the pain of your past

Romans 8:37-39 NIV
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Corinthians 3:21-23 MSG
21 I don’t want to hear any of you bragging about yourself or anyone else. Everything is already yours as a gift—Paul, Apollos, Peter, the world, life, death, the present, the future—all of it is yours, and you are privileged to be in union with Christ, who is in union with God. 22 I don’t want to hear any of you bragging about yourself or anyone else. Everything is already yours as a gift—Paul, Apollos, Peter, the world, life, death, the present, the future—all of it is yours, and you are privileged to be in union with Christ, who is in union with God.* * * 23 I don’t want to hear any of you bragging about yourself or anyone else. Everything is already yours as a gift—Paul, Apollos, Peter, the world, life, death, the present, the future—all of it is yours, and you are privileged to be in union with Christ, who is in union with God.

Your past does not belong to you. It belongs to Jesus. He rightfully purchased it at the cross of Calvary.

2. In a place of failure = We settle because it’s safer to stay on the sidelines. With God, living by faith, we can fail forward! Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn!

3. In a place of success! Many people in America are in bondage because of blessing. God loves to bless his people - Poverty and lack are not virtues of the Kingdom.

Revelation 3:17 NLT
17 You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.

Hallmarks of Spiritual Maturity:
- How much can God bless you and you still need Him?
- How much can God release to you and you still run to Him?
- How much can God provide to you and you still pursue Him and live for Him?

Matthew 5:6 NIV
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Matthew 5:3 NIV
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4. In the place of the cross.

A Call to Spiritual Growth

Hebrews 5:11-12 NLT
11 There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. 12 You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.

Revelation 3:15-16 NLT
15 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! 16 But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

We tend to settle for getting to heaven, when the clear call of the Bible to the believer is to begin to bring about heaven to earth.

Luke 10:19 NLT
19 Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.

Acts of the Apostles 18:18 NLT
18 Paul stayed in Corinth for some time after that, then said good-bye to the brothers and sisters and went to nearby Cenchrea. There he shaved his head according to Jewish custom, marking the end of a vow. Then he set sail for Syria, taking Priscilla and Aquila with him.

Matthew 18:18 NIV
18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

5. In a place of Rejection - Love and acceptance are our greatest needs, rejection is our greatest pain.

Jeremiah 31:3 NIV
3 The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love;I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

Hebrews 13:5 NKJV
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Romans 3:27 NLT
27 Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith.
