Sermon Notes: Can I Lose My Salvation?

Mark 12:29-31

You can definitely say that the Bible says you can’t just “lose” your salvation.

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” —John 10:28

Jeremiah 31:3b

1 Corinthians 1:8

But you can definitely say that the Bible says you can lose your salvation.

Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit.”

John 15:1-2

John 15:4, 6

1 Corinthians 9:27

Hebrews 10:26

2 Peter 2:20

The Bible has two clear messages:

-God is faithful and will not abandon you. So don’t

.

-Satan wants to destroy you, so be careful not to be

from Jesus.

Q & A with Brian Jennings and Matt Crosser

Discussion

  • Play a round of “High, Low, Buffalo.” Each person, if they want, shares about their week: a high moment from the week, a low moment or struggle from the week, and a weird or strange or funny thing that happened (like seeing a buffalo walking down a street).

  • Why do we prefer simple answers, even when the answer isn’t simple?

  • In what ways does the Bible seem to say that we can’t lose our salvation? In what ways does it seem to say we can?

  • How do we arrive at some clarity with this? (Note, the word “lose” may not be helpful here).

  • What are the 2 truths related to this and how can we hold them together?

  • How can you pray for one another to remain in Jesus?
