Psalms 90:1-91:16
90:4-6 | Eternity lives outside of time. That God is eternal is a difficult concept for mere mortals to comprehend (2 Pet. 3:8).
90:12 | An event that causes someone to seriously reflect on his or her life has a purpose. Everyone needs to take inventory regarding how they are spending their days. A day is like a dollar: it can be spent wisely or foolishly (39:4), but once it is spent, it cannot be spent again.
91:3 | The snare of the fowler depicts a subtle trap – those things that seek to deceive. The perilous pestilence portrays events that, with force, affect everyone in their path.
91:4 | A mother bird spreads her wings over her fledglings to protect them from storm and predator. She will allow herself to be wounded to protect them. She keeps them warm and sheltered, and the baby birds feel safe in her embrace (17:8). Such is God’s fierce love for humanity.
91:5-6 | The Hebrew day had four equal parts, and this verse reveals that each one is under God’s protection. Night represents the time between 6pm and midnight. Day represents the time from 6am to noon. Darkness represents the time between midnight and 6am. Noonday represents the time from noon to 6pm. God provides constant protection, 24 hours a day (Isa. 43:2).
