The Christian Life: Living Under Pressure
Life Group Questions
Key Verses: 1 Peter 2:13-20; Romans 13:1-5

Opening Question: What is the most difficult job you have ever done? What made it so difficult?

  1. Read 1 Peter 2:13-14
    a. When you read the word submit, what is your initial reaction? Why do you think you react this way?
    b. Read Romans 13:1-5: What is the role of human government? How is a believer to respond if the government fails to fulfill its role within God’s economy? (see also Acts 5:29-32)

  2. Read 1 Peter 2:15-17
    a. Why is Peter concerned about silencing “foolish people?”
    b. Peter instructs his audience and us to “Acts as free people” by being “bond-servants [or slaves] of God.” How does this work?

  3. Read 1 Peter 2:18-20
    a. Peter tells those within his audience that are under masters, as slaves, to subject themselves to these individuals regardless of how that person treats them. Why would he, inspired by the Holy Spirit, say such a thing? Why would he not outright ban the practice of slavery?
    b. How can our suffering find favor with God? How can this principle apply to our situations in modern America where slavery is not really a thing?

Application of our Vision “Live, Love, Learn”:

• Plan a service project together at the Church (loving the church body while you are doing life together) in the next month, after the holidays. We have some painting in the sanctuary and fellowship room that might be a great place to start. Leaders let Pastor Chris know your date and desired project.
