“To The Moon”

We exist to help more people meet, love, & follow Jesus.

“We exist…”
We are a family.
“… to help…”
We are servants.
“…more people…”
We are missionaries.
“…meet, love & follow Jesus.”
We are disciples.

Meet Jesus - Acts 1:7-8

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own
authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Love Jesus - Mark 12:28-30

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most
important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our
God, the Lord is one.Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and
with all your mind and with all your strength.’”

Follow Jesus - Matthew 4:19 & 28:16-20

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and
said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am
with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Discussion Questions:

Getting to Know Me

  1. What stuck with you from the message?
  2. Do you ever feel like a “settler” rather than a “missionary”? What’s the difference?

Into the Bible

  1. In Acts 1:7-8, what difference does it make that Jesus is not giving orders (the sentence is not imperative), but he is telling his disciples what to expect?
  2. What is implied when he says they will be his witnesses all over the world?
  3. Pastor Josh noted that if we follow the one command in Mark 12:30, all the rest of life will fall into place. Why is that so? Why is it so hard to do?
  4. See Matthew 4:19, where Jesus is calling people to follow him. How did he make them “fish for people”?
  5. In Matthew 28:16-20, what’s the connection between Jesus having “all authority” and him telling his disciples to go and make disciples? When will this assignment end?
  6. What’s the promise in v20, and what difference should it make?

Application

  1. What was your main takeaway from the sermon? What will you do about it?
  2. Where do we fit into the picture in Acts 1:7-8?
  3. Thinking of the many risks and unknowns involved in Apollo 8’s lift-off; How is our situation – our lift-off – different? [Think Rom 8:28.]
  4. What is one thing God is asking you to do, or one prayer God is calling you to pray, as a result of listening to this sermon?
