What is the loving thing to do? (or) What does love require?
Matthew 22:37 (NIV)
Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
I John 4:20-21 (NIV)
Those who say, “I love God,” and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.
John 13:33-34 (NIV)
“My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I will tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Romans 13:9 (NIV)
The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself”….love is the fulfillment of the law.
I Corinthians 13:2,4 (NIV)
If I have not love I am nothing….I gain nothing.
I Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
I Corinthians 14:1 (NIV)
Follow the way of love….
Galatians 5:6, 14 (NIV)
The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love….For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
I Corinthians 13:5 (NIV)
Love is not self-seeking.
Philippians 1:9 (NIV)
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best…
Communion
Philippians 2:3-5 (NIV)
“…In humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others. In your relationship with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus…”“
