Sexual Brokenness
Why are we talking about it?
This is not a new problem
Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 11Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. —1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NLT)
We are image bearers
Marriage.
This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. —Genesis 2:24 (NLT)
God’s design for marriage is one man and one woman living in covenant relationship with God and each other for life.
Sex
Sex offers great gifts to a marriage.
- It seals the marriage covenant.
- An invitation to partner with God.
- Joy and pleasure
How do you practice intimacy outside of sex?
At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. —Genesis 3:7
What recovery has taught me:
- All things are covered under the grace of God
- Sexual pleasure is not a need
- Our sexuality is good
- We do not have to walk alone
