No Worries - Message Study Questions

Summary

Now Jesus teaches on material needs. This whole section is about living in a closer intimate relationship with God, getting to know Him better, understanding self, and the rewards of the promised Kingdom. If your heart is in the wrong place, you will store treasure in the wrong place. If your heart is in the right place, you will store treasure in the right place. Whatever you treasure the most controls you. It will dominate your thinking; you will seek it, prioritize your life around it, and talk about it.

God wants to be your priority; how you allocate your money demonstrates that in a tangible way. Giving opens our eyes spiritually and brings happiness. Don’t worry about material needs because God promises to provide. Praise God for providing for you. This will orient your perspective and change your attitude. God always provides when you put Him first. If God isn’t first in your life, you will always be worrying and wanting. Always.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself…”
(Matthew 6:33-34a)

  1. What do you really treasure the most? Why?

  2. What are some of the things we most commonly worry about?

Consider This

If your eyes are focused on the wrong things, it means your heart is in the wrong place. When your heart is in the wrong place, you won’t be able to see things like God sees them because your vision is cloudy.

  1. What absolute truth does Matthew 6:19 reveal about earthly treasure? Does this truth affect how you view and use money and material things? How?

  2. Read Matthew 6:20. Do you believe it? Describe some ways we can store up treasure in heaven.

  3. Can you share a time when the pursuit of money or material things clouded your vision in the past?

  4. What types of things to you think about the most? How can you regain control of your heart?

  5. If you were to grade yourself on worrying, what grade would you give yourself?

  6. Worrying demonstrates “little faith” in what God can do for you. It’s a worldly thought to trust in self and your stuff first rather than trusting God. List some ways you can demonstrate faith daily?

  7. How can we keep the right perspective on money and material things?

  8. What does our attitude toward money reveal about us?

  9. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. How can you better value the things God has already entrusted to you each day?

Moving Forward

One day, we will all stand before God. You will give an account of what you did with what you were given. And based on what you give on earth, you will be blessed for all eternity in proportion to what you do now.

  1. So take an inventory: what are your priorities? What are your worries? Will you realign your priorities and take action steps of faith in the face of worry?

  2. Is there a friend or trusted someone who could help you evaluate how you handle money in the next month?

  3. How can you invest in your eternal life this week?
