The journey starts with belief… but then you follow Jesus as an apprentice and follow His ways, His teachings, and His example.
Following Jesus gives you the two things everyone is looking for and that the world promises, but cannot provide.
1. REST
MATTHEW 11:28-30
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” —https://www.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.11.28-30.NIV
2. PURPOSE
If Jesus is who He said He was, and did what He did, is He worth following?
What does it mean to FOLLOW Jesus?
You have to stop following the ways of the world.
Romans 12:2 NLT
You must keep following Jesus!
His Teachings
His Example
MATTHEW 11:28
…My yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Weight is inevitable, you’re gonna carry weight… you choose which one…
1. Religion’s?
2. The World’s?
3. Jesus’s?
IT WILL REQUIRE YOU TO DIE TO THE WAY RELIGION AND SOCIETY WANT YOU TO DO LIFE. There is a MARKED difference.
Hebrews 11:32-36
32And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, 33who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. 35Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. 36Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. 37They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— 38the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground. —https://www.bible.com/bible/111/HEB.11.32-36.NIV
Am I saying that you have to be a martyr to follow Jesus? NO!
What I’m saying is when we do follow Jesus, society and religion often can’t understand it
1. The point isn’t to walk around and wonder if they’re taking notice.
2. The point is to follow Jesus so fiercely that people won’t have the choice but to notice.
