Day 123 - The Image of God

Paulette Baker

“Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.’ 27 So God created human beings in His own image. In the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” - Genesis 1:26-27 NLT

If an example could be given (and there are many) for the proof of God, I would say we, you and I, are proof that God exists.

The identity of who God is resides in humankind. You and I are created in God’s image and likeness and can be identified in Him through Christ Jesus, His son. Genesis 1:26-27 announces that humankind is made in the image of God, the godhead three-in-one. As God has three parts (God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit), we also have three components (our spirit, soul, and body).

If you’re questioning the existence of God, look at the people around you. Each individually and uniquely made, yet all created to represent the majesty and gloriousness of our God! Our lives are living proof of a miracle-working God!

Next Steps

  • Think about it: Do I view myself as “made in the image of God”? Why or why not?

  • Think about it: How can I see the proof of God in those closest to me? (Tip: Think about the good characteristics of those you love. Then, try to see how those characteristics reflect God’s character)!

  • Action Step: Write Psalm 139:14 on a note or make a screensaver for your phone. Every day, remind yourself that you are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God!
