Typical New Year’s question: What should I do

?
The better question: What needs to be done ?

Big Idea: If you want to become a better

,
do something to make the world a better .

Nehemiah 1

Three Questions to Renew Your Purpose

  1. What’s your

    ?

  2. Who’s

    about it?

  3. How

    ?

Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. 2 Corinthians 5:14b-15 NLT

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION/DISCUSSION
1. Please read Nehemiah 1. What stands out to you in this part of Nehemiah’s story? What life situations that we face can feel as though our “walls” are broken down and our “gates” are burned with fire? How have you seen God connect pain and our purpose?
2. What burden do you feel God has given you? How could this burden help inform your life purpose? How does Nehemiah respond to the overwhelming situation of the remnant of Judah? Often our first response to a need is to jump in and try to fix it. Why is starting with prayer (like Nehemiah did) such an important first step?
3. Please read 2 Corinthians 5:14-17. What rich verses these are! What attitude should we have towards people according to this passage? How can knowing that God is in the business renewing things and people help motivate you to pursue (and stick with) your purpose?
