“Let not your hearts be troubled.” —John 14:1
Why would the disciple’s hearts be troubled?
- He was going to be betrayed.
- He was going to leave them.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” —John 13:34-35
- He was going to face denial.
“Jesus answered, ‘Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times.’” —John 13:38
Question - Have you ever felt as though God has abandoned you?
What does Jesus tell them to do?
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” —John 14:1

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” —Exodus 14:14
What promises does Jesus make to His children with troubled hearts?
- We will be with Him and His Father in Heaven.
“In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” —John 14:2-4
- He’s made a way for us to follow Him.
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’” —John 14:6-7
“Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?’” —John 14:9-10
- He’s given us a purpose to fulfill.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” —John 14:12-14
“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” —John 14:13-14
