THE HEART OF THE MATTER

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Matthew 6:19-24(ESV)

WHEN IT COMES TO MONEY, I NEED…

1) THE RIGHT STOREHOUSE.
2) THE RIGHT STANCE.
3) THE RIGHT SOVEREIGN.

1) THE RIGHT STOREHOUSE.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. (vs. 19-20)

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (vs. 21)

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth… (vs. 19)

2) THE RIGHT STANCE.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness. (vs. 22-23)

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 1 Tim. 6:10(ESV)

3) THE RIGHT SOVEREIGN.

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. (vs. 24)

“Do not lay up treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal.” (vs. 19)

“If you worship money and things, if they are where you find real meaning in life, you will never have enough, you will never feel you have enough. Worship your body and beauty and chase after sexual allurement, and you will always feel ugly. When time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally grieve you. Worship power and you will end up feeling weak and afraid. You will need evermore power over others to numb you to your own fear. Worship your intellect, being seen as smart, you will end up feeling stupid—a fraud who is on the verge of being found out.”
-David Foster Wallace

…but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. (vs. 20)

…That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Col. 2:3(ESV)

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Col. 3:1-2(ESV)

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession… 1 Peter 2:9(ESV)
