The Power of Giving

Genesis 4:1-10

  • you give and you give it, what you think God is worth. (v.3)

  • When you see everything as to the Lord, you to Him as the owner and provider of everything you poses. (v.1-4)
  • When you to God as the owner and provider, you’ll _deligh_t in the opportunity to give to Him. (v.4)

Money is an intoxicant; once it gets into the system of Cain-like people, it controls everything they do.

  • God when he attempts to help you with your pride problem.

    Giving…
    1. It reminds us that nothing we have, however much we have, truly belongs to us.
    2. It shows God that we are committed to worshipping Him.
    3. It safeguards our heart’s from becoming inward focused.
    4. It reminds us that of our role as mangers and it inspires us to use God’s resources wisely.
    5. It helps others see the value of giving and inspires them to do the same.

Sermon Text & References2

Genesis 4:1–10 (CSB)
1 The man was intimate with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. She said, “I have had a male child with the LORD’s help.” 2 She also gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel became a shepherd of flocks, but Cain worked the ground. 3 In the course of time Cain presented some of the land’s produce as an offering to the LORD. 4 And Abel also presented an offering—some of the firstborn of his flock and their fat portions. The LORD had regard for Abel and his offering, 5 but he did not have regard for Cain and his offering. Cain was furious, and he looked despondent.

6 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you furious? And why do you look despondent? 7 If you do what is right, won’t you be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” 8 Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. 9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s guardian?” 10 Then he said, “What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground!

Psalm 24:1–2 (CSB)
1 The earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the LORD; 2 for he laid its foundation on the seas and established it on the rivers.

2 Corinthians 9:7 (CSB)
7 Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver.
