Luke 11:1-4 (New Living Translation)
Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
2 Jesus said, “This is how you should pray:
“Father, may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
3 Give us each day the food we need,
4 and forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation.”

1. Read Luke 11:1. What was Jesus doing before he was asked to teach one of the disciples how to pray? Why do you think the disciple asked Jesus to teach him how to pray even though he had been following him for a while? How can Christians model and teach the importance of prayer?
2. Read Luke 11:2-4. Discuss how verse two and Matthew 6:9 support that the Lord’s Prayer is a template for how to pray. How does the Lord’s Prayer influence your prayer life?
3. How does Jesus’ use of the word “Father” in verse two show that God is relational? How does focusing on God’s holiness and remembering that it is his kingdom help us prioritize God’s presence over our own plans? How often do you spend time in prayer and what tends to be the focus of your prayers?
4. What three petitions are listed in verses three and four? Why is forgiveness from God and forgiving others so important? Even though God does not tempt us, we still face temptation. How does prayer rescue us from temptation and what do you need rescuing from?
5. What else stood out to you in the sermon that you have questions about in this passage of Scripture?
