1. What is our

?

  1. Your mind – this is your thoughts and your feelings and your emotions.
  2. Your will – this is your ability to choose. This is the power to say yes or no.
  3. Your flesh – this represents your habits and cravings and appetites.

Our soul is what makes us most like God.

“Of course he isn’t safe, but he is good. He is not a tame lion.” —CS Lewis

Psalm 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name.

2. Who Can

my Soul?

There is a paradox of the soul. The soul is incapable of satisfying itself, but it is also incapable of living without satisfaction.

Ecclesiastes 6:7 We work to feed our appetites; Meanwhile our souls go hungry.

Psalm 42:2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?

Isaiah 55:1-3 Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2“Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and delight yourself in abundance. 3“Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, according to the faithful mercies shown to David.

Many times we are feeding our soul the very things that corrupt us and destroy the part of us that is most like God. Sin is, in fact, the great enemy of the human race.

3. Who

My Soul?

Luke 12:19-20 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ 20“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?

Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

  • What is something I know competes with Jesus for the allegiance of my soul?

  • Discuss how finding ourselves in a state of discontent is a sympton of soul hunger.

  • Share how you came to Jesus and drank freely from the water of life.
