What if Revelation does not want to be a roadmap? What if it wants to be something different?
One problem with this roadmap is chapter 6.
Recap
Chapter 1 - John the Apostle is on Patmos and Christ appears with a message to the 7 churches of Asia Minor.
Chapter 2 and 3 - The message to the 7 churches of Asia Minor.
Chapter 4 - John is taken to heaven and 24 elders are in front of someone on a throne and the four living creatures are saying Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty. Who was and is and is to come! (V 8)
Chapter 5 - The one on the throne is holding a scroll and John is weeping because no one can open it. An elder says the Lion of Judah can and John sees a slain lamb who can open the scroll. All heaven erupts, because the lamb is worthy and is to be worshipped like the one on the throne.
Chapter 6 - Lamb breaks the seals. The first 4 are the 4 horsemen. 1st the white horse bent on conquest (verse 1). The second was a red horse to take away peace (verse 3). The third a black horse to destroy the economies (verse 5). Fourth a pale horse that brings death (verse 7). The fifth seal is the souls of the martyrs wanting to know when judgement and avenging them will happen.

Chapter 7 - A great multitude of 144000 they are the answer to the question in chapter 6 of who can stand?
Chapter 8 and 9- 7th seal is broken and silence in heaven for about ½ an hour then the trumpets are released and all hell breaks loose. The key is given to the abyss. Hell is opened up and locusts like things come out attacking people and all this weird stuff occurring.

Video - Bible Project - Revelation 1 to 11
What is different about Revelation to you than when we started?
Look at the Church in Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, and Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. Then answer the questions below
What aspect of Jesus is described?
Strengths of the church?
Weaknesses of the church?
What is the Command?
What is the Warning?
What is the Promise?
Read Revelation 3:14-22
Do you think they are real believers or not? Why?
What does He mean that they are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot?
What was their true spiritual condition?
What important principles can you learn from Jesus’ criticism?
What application can you make?
What counsel does Jesus give this church?
Where could they get real riches and white clothes?
How did their attitude need to change in order to follow Jesus’ counsel?
What do we learn about Jesus’ character in verse 19?
How can we guard ourselves against self-sufficiency?
How can we grow in dependence on God rather than on ourselves?
If Jesus were to direct John to write a letter to First Christian Church of Water Valley what might He say? Note - This is a chance for honest reflection upon our church community – speak the truth in love.
It might start this way To the angel of the church in Water Valley… I know your deeds…
Yet I hold this against you…
Therefore…
Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches …
Read Revelation 4:1-2
Who was speaking to John?
What did John hear?
For what purpose was he transported to heaven?
What does it mean that John was “in the Spirit?”
Read Revelation 4:3-7
What are your observations on the throne room scene in heaven?
What did it look like?
Who is there?
What might the twenty four elders represent?
What might the four living creatures in verses 6-7 represent?
What does this heavenly scene teach us about God?
Read Revelation 4:8-11
What are the four living creatures doing?
What are the elders doing?
What crowns might the elders be casting before the throne? Why would they do that?
What can you learn from this passage about worship?
How can your life right now be an act of worship to God?
What are some ways you can worship God more fully in the coming week?
