ARE YOU TEACHABLE? – SELAH
Sunday, May 1, 2022 – Pastor George Dupree

The title of the message ends with the word SELAH which means to pause and think about what’s been said.

I’d like us all to listen today and pause and think about how it applies to our personal life.

Proverbs 12:1 Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.

The Holy Spirit Is Our Teacher
• Isaiah 30:21 Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.

• John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said.

• John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.

The Holy Spirit Guides us through His Word and through other Godly people.

He is the Spirit of Truth - John 14:17 and John 16:13

In order to be taught you need to be teachable, you need to be humble.
Let’s be like King David, who wasn’t perfect but had a heart after God and said this…

• Psalms 27:11 Teach me how to live, O LORD. Lead me along the path of honesty

• Psalms 86:11 Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, that I may honor you.

Five signs that you’re Un-teachable
1 – Chronic failure – in business, in marriage, in finances, in parenting etc.
2 – Argumentative and defensive nature – can’t be corrected without argument or justifying
3 – Isolation and withdrawal in difficult times – in difficult times we should seek help
4 – Blame transfer – other people, circumstances, the devil
5 – Surrounding yourself with people who always agree with you and feeling threatened by people with different opinions

Five Signs That You’re Teachable
1 – Humility – admitting that you’re weak; saying that you need God and others to teach you
2 – Graciously accepting correction an input
3 – Seeking wise input, counsel in times of decisions, difficulty and chronic failure
4 – Submitting to authority and staying accountable
5 – You’re a doer of the Word not just a hearer – Inspiration without application is not fruitful

In conclusion … welcome the Holy Spirit into your life and ask Him to bring about the change that only he can bring.
