Discussion Questions - Luke 12:35-48
READ AGAIN: Luke 12:35-48
- In what ways do you currently ready yourself for Jesus’ return? (v.35)
- What does the parable say will be the result for those who are ready and waiting? (v.37)
- The imagery changes in verse 39. What is Jesus trying to convey by saying His return would be like a thief in the night? (cf. 2 Peter 3:10)
- This parable that Jesus shares is known by a few different names and is one of the shared parables across the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke). This parable outlines across all three gospels that the second coming of Jesus is unknown by all except for only the Father. There is a purpose for for it being unknown, but what difference do you think it would make if we knew the exact timing of Jesus’ return?
- Peter asks a question in verse 41 about who the lesson of the parable is for. What do you think the answer is based on how Jesus responds? (v.41)
- What does Jesus say about the expectation of those who have been entrusted with more? (v.48) Does this connect to the answer He is giving to Peter’s question in verse 41?
- How can you, going forward, live like you are ready and waiting? What things do you need to change?
