Jesus said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? It is like a MUSTARD SEED, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”

“Unintended Consequences”: Every decision we make and every action we take has consequences beyond our ability to predict.
.
There is a “SO THAT” (an unintended consequence) in this parable: “it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants and puts out large branches, SO THAT the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”

The farmer doesn’t plant the seed because of the shade for the birds. That is simply an added benefit. In the same way, we plant mustard seeds of faith, and there is no way to know what that will produce years from now!
