Have you ever gone to your knees in prayer but you couldn’t find the words to pray? If so, Romans 8:26-27 has some wonderful news for you.

What was the last thing you struggled to find words to put into prayer?

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. —Romans 8:26-27 (NIV)

1. You will face a day when you don’t know how to pray.

Paul calls this our “weakness”. Why would he call it a weakness?

It’s not a bad thing to feel inadequate. It is not a bad thing to be more dependent upon God and admit that you don’t know… to admit you are weak.

2.When we are weak, the Holy Spirit will speak.

Paul makes it clear that the Holy Spirit wants to help.

In what ways does Paul describe in Romans 8 that the Holy Spirit helps us?

The Holy Spirit loves you so much that he has learned how to interpret your groaning.

What does you think it means that the “Spirit intercedes for us through wordless groans?”

3.I can kneel because I trust God’s will.

God’s will is not limited by our limited understanding or our limited vocabulary. Paul says that God knows our hearts.

Why is our heart probably more important than our words in prayer?
What is on your heart this week?
