9/1 - Pastor Dwayne - Hebrews Summer Sermon Series - Week 9 - Fully Equipped
9/1/2024
Hebrews 13:1-9,
“Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. 2 Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!3 Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies. 4 Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery. 5 Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,
“I will never fail you,
* I will never abandon you.”*
6 So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” 7 Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9 So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.”
Love one another:
Hebrews 13:1, “Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters.”
- 1 John 4:8, “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
- Hebrews 13:1-3, “Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. 2 Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.”
Obedience: The Importance of Mortality
- Jesus said, John 14:15, “IF you love me, you will keep my commandments”
- Hebrews 13:4, ” Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery”
This command comes with a WARNING:
- Hebrews 13:4, “God will judge those who are immoral and those who commit adultery.”
- 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.”

Be Content
- Hebrews 13:5, “be satisfied with what you have”
- Hebrews 13:5-6, “Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”6 So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”
- Contentment: to be satisfied, to be strong, to be possessed with unfailing strength.
- Philippians 4:11-13, “for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
If God doesn’t give it, I don’t need it!
- Philippians 4:19, “my God shall supply ALL your needs according to His riches in glory.”
Honor Your Leaders
Hebrews 13:7, “ Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.”
- Hebrews 13:17, “Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.”
- Ephesians 6:1-3, “Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. 2 “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: 3 If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
Our willingness to honor leaders reflects our trust and honoring of God.
- 1 Timothy 3:1–7 contains the biblical qualifications for a pastor: “Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.”
Wrap Up: Love one another, Obey God, Be Content and Honor your leaders
The Result
Hebrews 13:20-21, you will “be equipped with all you need for doing His will”
- Hebrews 13:21, “…may he equip you with all you need for doing his will.
May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him.”
Response: Position yourself to be Equipped
Love one another, Obey God, Be Content, and Honor your leaders.
Where am I challenged in these areas?
How is God asking me to respond?
Benediction
Numbers 6:24-26,
“The LORD bless you and keep you;
*The LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;*
The LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
