How did Jesus relate to money?

1st - Jesus understood the

of money.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” —Matthew 6:24

2nd - Jesus talked very

about tithing.
3rd - Jesus never asked people to give Him their money.
4th - Jesus doesn’t appear to have had any money.

What is it that qualifies Jesus to talk about money and possessions?

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” —2 Corinthians 8:9

He doesn’t want something

us. He wants something us.

“Then he said to them “Watch out! “Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” —Luke 12:15

“Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So, I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.” —Matthew 25:24-25

What you possess is not an

of how much God loves you.

“Command them to do good to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” —Timothy 6:18-19

“He is no fool who gives away that which he cannot keep in order to find that which he cannot lose.” —Jim Eliot
