Sermon On The Mount: Week 7 • Blessed Are The Pure In Heart • August 4, 2024
Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Proverbs 27:19 As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.
The
Matthew 15 Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, 2 “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat.”
7 You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: 8 “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 9 in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’”
18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. 20 These are what defile a person.
It doesn’t matter what your
Matthew 23:25–26 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of extortion and rapacity. You blind Pharisee! First cleanse the inside of the cup and of the plate, that the outside also may be clean.
Purity of heart is not
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
Psalm 24: 3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false, and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
A pure heart has been made
Romans 10:9 - If you declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Ezekiel 36:26-27 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
Hebrews 10:14 For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.
Too many Christians are trying to love the
James 4:4 *You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God?*
6 But he gives more grace.
