Dream Chasers - Developing a Godly Ambition

Ambition - a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work.

What role does my effort play in reaching my dreams? What does the Bible say about how we develop hunger and drive?

Contentment in the right areas leads to peace and joy.

Contentment in the wrong areas leads to apathy or laziness.

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” —Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT)

So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” —Acts 1:6-8 (NLT)

I am here to serve God and others.

Ambition is not a sin. Selfish ambition is a sin.

Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen. —Hebrews 13:20-21 (NLT)

I am worthy regardless of my circumstances.

We’ve got to learn to separate our dreams from our sense of identity and self-worth.

“When we can let go of what other people think and own our story, we gain access to our worthiness—the feeling that we are enough just as we are and that we are worthy of love and belonging. When we spend a lifetime trying to distance ourselves from the parts of our lives that don’t fit with who we think we’re supposed to be, we stand outside of our story and hustle for our worthiness by constantly performing, perfecting, pleasing, and proving.” —Brené Brown

I owe every success to God’s favor in my life.

David did not say, “I’ve killed a lion and I’ve killed a bear. I can handle this giant.”

“The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!” —1 Samuel 17:37 (NLT)

My past and future success is attributed to God’s power, not my performance.

I am here to serve God.

I am worthy regardless of my circumstances.

I owe every success to God’s favor in my life.

That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe. —1 Timothy 4:10 (NIV)

My best effort + God’s favor = The Dreams and Plans God has for my life.

Work with enthusiasm.

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. —1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT)

Challenge the status quo.

How do I go above and beyond normal expectations because I’m living for the God who bought my freedom?

If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles. —Matthew 5:41 (NLT)

Allow your title of “interim steward” to create urgency.

We are temporary stewards of EVERYTHING and that should create a sense of urgency.

Enjoy the process of building.
