Tell Me About His Followers

Jesus isn’t looking for fans—he’s calling true followers who will be near him and sent out by him.

SERMON NOTES

APPLICATION GUIDE

Discuss:
Have you ever been so passionate about someone or something that you waited in line, bought merchandise, or traveled just to get closer? What does that kind of excitement or loyalty reveal about you?

What different kinds of people responded to Jesus in this passage, and how did their responses differ (vv. 7-19)?

Why do you think Jesus called the Twelve “to be with him” before sending them out (v. 14)? What does that tell us about discipleship?

What is significant about the kind of men Jesus chose to be his apostles, including Judas Iscariot? What does that reveal about God’s calling and grace?

Apply:
In what ways are you tempted to approach Jesus more like a fan than a follower?

What draws you most to Jesus right now—his help, his teaching, or his presence?

How intentional are you about simply being with Jesus in your daily life? What needs to change for that to become a greater priority?

Have you ever sensed Jesus calling you out of the crowd to a deeper step of obedience, ministry, or trust? How did you respond?

Commit:
What is one specific way you will move from being a fan to a follower this week—whether it’s spending time with Jesus, obeying something he’s calling you to do, or serving someone in his name?
