15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Colossians 1:15-20

1.) JESUS IS SUPREME OVER ALL CREATION.

1 In the beginning the Word [Jesus] already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1:4-5

15 Jesus…the firstborn over all creation.
18 Jesus…is the beginning and the firstborn. Colossians 1:15, 18

Preexistence = Jesus existed before another thing came into being.

Preeminence = The supremacy of Jesus who surpasses everyone and everything in creation.

10A He came into the very world he created. John 1:10A
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. Hebrews 1:2-3

10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Hebrews 2:10

Jesus being the captain of our salvation.
(Captain = Archegos)

2.) JESUS IS SUPREME OVER HIS CHURCH.

18A He is the head of the body, the church. Colossians 1:18A

The primary metaphor for the church is a body. The picture of a body teaches that the church is a living organism, not a dead organization. This metaphor is typically used to emphasize the mutual dependence of the members of the body. Underscoring the total dependence of the body to its head. Anything without a head is dead. Anything with more than one head is a monster. Jesus Christ is the only true head of the church. H.B Charles Jr.

What great joy and comfort, [we] can take in knowing that Christ is the head of our body/community. [We] do not have to fret or worry about where [our] feet will step, what [our] hands will touch, or any other such concern because [we] trust the Head – [we] trust that He sees what is ahead and in His leading. . 3.) JESUS IS THE SUPREME IN THE RECONCILIATION OF MANKIND.

19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Colossians 1:19-20

Reconciliation restitches the unraveled, reverses the rebellion, and rekindles the cold passion. Reconciliation touches the shoulder of the wayward and woos him homeward. The path to the cross tells us exactly how far God will go to call us back. HE CHOSE THE NAILS - Max Lucado

8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Romans 5:8-10

WHEN PEOPLE SEE US DO THEY SEE JESUS?

WHEN PEOPLE HEAR US DO THEY HEAR JESUS?

WHEN WE INTERACT WITH PEOPLE DO THEY FEEL JESUS?

20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20

17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:17
