God Has A Name
I AM: What's In A Name Week 1

Thankfully, God never forgets who He is or who we are. He has revealed His name so that we can know Him personally.

So, as we begin this journey, I want to challenge you: How well do you know God’s name? Do you see Him as distant, or do you recognize that He is I AM—eternal, present, unchanging, and powerful?

Over the next several weeks, my prayer is that we all come to know who He is in a deeper way. Because when we understand His name, we understand His power, His promises, and His presence in our lives.

I. REVEALING THE ETERNAL NAME

Then Moses asked God, “If I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what should I tell them?”

God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.” —Exodus 3:13-14

II. REASSURANCE IN HIS NAME

God also said to Moses, “Say this to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation. —Exodus 3:15

Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. —John 14:13

III. RELYING ON GOD’S NAME

Some take pride in chariots, and others in horses,

but we take pride in the name of the Lord our God.

They collapse and fall,

but we rise and stand firm. —Psalm 20:7-8

IV. THE RENOWN OF JESUS’ NAME

For this reason God highly exalted him

and gave him the name

that is above every name,

so that at the name of Jesus

every knee will bow—

in heaven and on earth

and under the earth—

and every tongue will confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father. —Philippians 2:9-11
