a. The Psalms are a Holy Spirit-curated collection of

ancient Hebrew poems, songs, and prayers.

b. They were written over

years, and are divided into 5 “books”.

c. Approximately

of the Old Testament references to the Messiah quoted by New Testament writers are from the Book of Psalms.

Psalms for Believers
- Prayer book for God’s people.
- Playlist of worship and praise.
- Guide for spiritual formation and drawing near to God.

Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. —Psalm 22:3

  • Enthroned – to

  • Praise opens the door for encountering God in every moment of life, and when His Presence comes, everything

  • Psalms teaches us to neither

    our pain nor let it determine our lives. This book is all about the lament, praise, faith, and hope of God’s people.

Psalms Reading Plan

> Blessed is the man
> Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
> Nor stands in the path of sinners,
> Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
> 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
> And in His law he meditates day and night.
> 3 He shall be like a tree
> Planted by the rivers of water,
> That brings forth its fruit in its season,
> Whose leaf also shall not wither;


And whatever he does shall prosper.

> The ungodly are not so,
> But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
> 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,


Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

> 6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,


But the way of the ungodly shall perish. —Psalm 1

  • God’s is for us to prosper multidimensionally, not just in one dimension.

Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. —Genesis 13:12

For that just man, living [there] among them, tortured his righteous soul every day with what he saw and heard of [their] unlawful and wicked deeds. —2 Peter 2:8 AMP

1. in the word.

  • To delight is to intentionally direct your affections towards something.

2. Meditates. God’s word not only feeds me, but me.

  • Meditation is the practice by which we curate our thought life.

I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure. —Psalm 119:162

3. Whatever you do will .

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. —Joshua 1:8
