Core Value #1 - Biblical Literacy
Read 1 Peter 1:13-25, Matthew 4:4, Hebrews 4:12 ESV
Icebreaker: How has God used the Bible and/or His people to grow your faith?
What strikes you about 1 Peter 1:24-25? How does this truth shape your thinking about God’s Word?
When did you first hear the Bible isn’t a book of rules, but instead is good news about Jesus Christ?
Briefly think about 1-3 people who have, or are currently, helping you understand the Bible. How are they encouraging or challenging you? Are you able to do the same for someone else in the coming year?
What specific resources help you engage the Scriptures with greater confidence?
What are tangible steps you’d be willing or eager to take in the coming week to grow your biblical literacy?
Question 42 of the New City Catechism (available in an app and book) asks, “How is the Word of God to be read and heard?” Answer: with diligence, preparation, and prayer; so that we may accept it with faith and practice it in our lives. Why is it crucial for Christians to both receive God’s Word by faith and put it to practice in daily living?
