INTRODUCTION

When God calls us for bigger things, it can be scary. Bigger things and bigger dreams require full dependency on God as we step into the unknown. People live with fear every day which can paralyze us and hinder our ability to move forward.

Imagine your life without fear! Come and discover how Joshua conquered his fears through a strong dependency on God.

Big faith is confident obedience to the Word of God regardless of the circumstances or the consequences. God told Joshua to “be strong and of good courage; be not afraid.” (Joshua 1:9)

In this collection of talks, we will look at Joshua’s life and learn how to trust God more and fear less.

CONQUERING FEAR WEEK #7:

TAKING BACK WHAT IS GOD’S

I. TAKE BACK WITH (15:6-8a, 10-12)

“There has not yet been a person in our history who led a life of ease whose name is worth remembering.” —Theodore Roosevelt

• Caleb had to overcome three things:

  1. He had to overcome

    . (v. 6-8a)

“I know how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content — whether well fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need. 13I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me.” —Philippians 4:12-13

  2. He had to overcome

    .

“Planted in the house of the Lord, they thrive in the courts of our God. 14They will still bear fruit in old age, healthy and green, 15to declare, “The Lord is just; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.” —Psalm 92:13-15

  3. He had to overcome

    .

“Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us — 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” —Ephesians 3:20-21
“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the Lord.” —Psalm 27:14

II. TAKE BACK WITH (15:8b, 9)

A. Caleb was committed to

God (v. 8b)

• Six times the Bible says that Caleb followed the Lord “wholly” (Numbers 14:24; 32:12; Deuteronomy 1:36 and Joshua 14:8, 9, 14). It means “to close the gap.” It refers to
the fact that Caleb was committed to keeping the distance between himself and God to a minimum.

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. 2Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God” —Romans 12:1-2

B. Caleb was committed to

God (v. 9)

“When the Lord heard your words, he grew angry and swore an oath: 35‘None of these men in this evil generation will see the good land I swore to give your ancestors, 36except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land on which he has set foot, because he remained loyal to the Lord.” —Deuteronomy 1:34-36

III. TAKE BACK WITH (15:13-14)

A. Caleb was

for his consistency. (v. 13-14a)

“Now without faith it is impossible to please God, since the one who
draws near to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards
those who seek him.”

B. Caleb was

for his consistency.

CONCLUSION:

Are you commiting your life “wholly” to God like Caleb?
