Trust and Obey

Introduction

This sermon explores the theme of faithfulness in our lives, using reality TV shows as a metaphor for how our actions reveal our true selves. Just as contestants on shows like “Survivor,” “Deal or No Deal,” and “Traitors” are known by their actions, we, too, are known by our deeds and faithfulness in our relationship with God. The message emphasizes the importance of pre-deciding to be faithful, as our actions reflect our commitment to God.


Reality TV and Faithfulness

  • Reality TV shows like “Traitors” demonstrate how we are by our actions, similar to how people discern who is faithful or a in their relationship with God.


  • James 2:14 highlights the connection between and : “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?”

Pre-Deciding to Be Faithful

  • We are encouraged to to be faithful, just as Proverbs 16:3 teaches: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your .”


  • Each person is entrusted by God with something of , akin to the servants in the Parable of the Bags of Gold.


  • Our decisions to be faithful today will direct our actions tomorrow, leading to the eventual reward of hearing, “Well done, good and faithful .”

Recognizing and Using Our Gifts

  • Identify the gifts and blessings God has entrusted to you, recognizing them as gifts from above (James 1:17).


  • We must not these gifts like the third servant in the parable but actively use them for God’s purpose and to serve others.


“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” —1 Peter 4:10

In conclusion, God calls us to be faithful stewards of the blessings He has given us. By trusting and obeying Him, we can effectively use these gifts to serve God and others. Let us pre-decide to live lives marked by faithfulness so that one day we will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
