Freedom Series - Week 4
Galatians 5:7-10, “You were running the race so well. Who has held you back from following the truth? 8 It certainly isn’t God, for he is the one who called you to freedom. 9 This false teaching is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough! 10 I am trusting the Lord to keep you from believing false teachings. God will judge that person, whoever he is, who has been confusing you.”
Galatians 5:13-14,“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. 14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Galatians 5:16-18, “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.”
What we feed grows, what we starve dies
- Freedom requires wisdom on who we allow to speak into our lives
- Galatians 5:7-10, “ You were running the race so well.
- Freedom requires us to live by the Spirit’s power
- Galatians 5:16-18, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
- Freedom always requires a community of believers around us
- Galatians 5:13-14,“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
RESPONSE:
Who do you currently allow to speak into your life? Are they Godly influences or those that would push you back towards the world and what it says?
Do you lean on the power of the Holy Spirit to help you overcome temptations or have you been trying to do it on your own strength?
What is one step you can take to be a part of a community that can encourage and support your faith?
Benediction
Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)
24 The LORD bless you and keep you;
25 The LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
26 The LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.
