Title: A Prayer for Justice (AKA - This is in the Bible?!)
Text: Psalm 109
Big Idea: The Psalms help us to navigate every possible situation in life, including the pain of betrayal, mistreatment and injustice.
Main Points
• When David is betrayed, he brings his complaints to God and lets it all out—honestly.
• Once he’s made his complaints, he relinquishes his pain to God—totally.
• Then he turns his angry, imprecatory prayer into a song of praise.
Key Questions:
• Why is a passage like this, full of imprecations and curses, in the Bible at all? And why not just skip over it and get back to the “good” Psalms?
• What is the model of prayer given to us in this Psalm?
• What is your role if you aren’t dealing with this type of pain?
• How does Jesus’ life, ministry and death/resurrection reshape our understanding of this Psalm?
• Where is the Gospel in this Psalm?
