đź“– Sermon Summary

In this Easter message, Pastor Thomas-Steele challenges us to reconsider the kind of invitation Jesus offers through His resurrection. While many invitations in life feel like just another obligation, Jesus invites us into something our souls deeply long for: rest.

Drawing from Luke 24 and Matthew 11, Pastor Thomas-Steele reminds us that just as the women looked for the living among the dead, we too often chase life in places that can’t give it—achievement, approval, possessions, even good things like relationships or success. But Jesus offers a better way.

Easter isn’t just about what Jesus did—it’s about what He offers. The rest of Easter is rest for your soul, both now and forever. This rest comes not from doing more, but from coming to Jesus, learning from Him, and walking in His way. There is truly no other name that offers this kind of peace, purpose, or promise.

✍️ Three Practical Points

We’re tempted to look for the living among the dead

Like the women at the tomb in Luke 24, we sometimes seek life in things that can’t give it. But life is only found in Jesus.

Jesus’ Invitation is to Rest, Not Religion

He doesn’t invite us into a list of rules or spiritual performance—but into relationship, renewal, and rest.

True rest comes from walking with Jesus daily

It’s through living with Him, learning from Him, and living like Him that our souls begin to find the rest they were created for.

đź’¬ Discussion Questions

Luke 24:5 says, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” In what areas of life are you tempted to look for life in places that ultimately can’t provide it?

Read Matthew 11:28–29. What stands out to you in Jesus’ invitation? Why do you think so many of us struggle to actually accept this kind of rest?

“Jesus’ invitation is not to do more, but to do less.” How does that challenge or encourage you in your current season of life?

What are some “yokes” you’ve taken on that are heavy and exhausting? What might it look like to take on Jesus’ “easy yoke” instead?

Jesus offers rest now and forever. How would your week look different if you believed that soul-rest was available today—not just in eternity?

âś… Application Challenges

Name the Dead Ends

Write down 2–3 areas where you’re tempted to look for life apart from Jesus (e.g. achievement, control, approval). This week, pray daily that God would help you surrender those places and turn to Him instead.

Accept the Invitation

Choose one day this week to unplug, slow down, and spend intentional time with Jesus. Read Matthew 11:28–30 and reflect: “What would it look like for me to actually live from rest, not rush?”

Share the Invitation

Jesus’ invitation to rest is for all. Think of someone in your life who may be feeling overwhelmed or burdened. Reach out with encouragement—share the Scripture, the sermon, or simply your own story of how Jesus gives rest.
