More than a Miracle: Unleashing Abundance
Senior Pastor Jeff Maness

Big Idea: Jesus + what I have, will always = an abundance!
Big Question: How do I live with an abundance mindset?
Main Scripture: John 6:5-15
Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” 6 He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. 7 Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” —John 6:5-7
Jesus wasn’t asking about the cost; he was asking where the food would come from. —Pastor Tony Evans
Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. 9 “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” —John 6:8-9
How do I live with an abundance mindset?
1. Trust God with what I have
At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God. 19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. 20 Now all glory to God our Father forever and ever! Amen. —Philippians 4:18-20
“Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. —John 6:10-11
How do I live with an abundance mindset?
1. Trust God with what I have
2. Thank God in what I have
Jesus took insufficiency, thanked God for it, and provided more than enough. Don’t let your lack of resources limit what God can do. Offer prayers of thanksgiving even in the midst of your insufficiency. —Pastor Tony Evans
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! —Habakkuk 3:17-18
After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, “Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” 13 So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves. —John 6:12-13
This command shows us the care of Jesus that there should be no waste. Though He had the power to provide any quantity of food, He here taught us that the abundance He provides is not to be squandered. It is not given us to waste. It is given to sustain life, to excite gratitude, to fit for the active service of God. Everything should be applied to its appropriate end, and nothing should be squandered or lost. —Albert Barnes Commentary

When the people saw him do this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, “Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!” 15 When Jesus saw that they were ready to force him to be their king, he slipped away into the hills by himself. —John 6:14-15
