YHWH, the Source of Our Salvation
• God is our salvation: Psalm 68:18-20
o v.18: Quoted by Paul regarding Jesus: Ephesians 4:8
o v.19: Salvation (Hb. yâshuwʿah /yesh·oo·aw/), inclusive of the NAME (Hb. hashem), YHWH
o v.20: Salvation (Hb. mô·šā·ʿôṯ) – salvation as in deliverance
o Y’shua – “YHWH is salvation,” in the OT translated as Joshua in English, in the NT Gk. Iēsoûs in English: Jesus, Lt. Ihsous
• The Messiah
o Hb. Mashiach/maw·shee·akh/ - the anointed/painted one, NT Gk. Christ, Lt. Christos – which have the same meaning
o the divinely chosen human King (like King David)
• Hb. Y’shua ha Mashiyach, NT Gk. Iēsoûs Christ, Lt. Ihsous Christos
• So, why name Him “Iēsoûs/Jesus”? Matthew 1:18-25
o By the time of Christ, most Jews did not understand Hebrew
o Most spoke Aramaic (a holdover from the Babylonian exile ca. 540 BC) and Greek (Alexander the Great conquered Israel in ca. 329 BC), and some spoke Latin (conquest by Pompey in 63 BC): Isaiah 9:1-11
• YHWH confirms the Son’s identity, even in human form: Philippians 1:5-11, Matthew 3:16-17
• The progressive revelation of God comes to fulfillment in the person of Jesus Christ: Colossians 1:15-20
o In Y’shua, YHWH and His saving work are fully revealed
o He is the divine King who will deliver His people
Why This Matters
• Understanding God as Y’shua ha Mashiach helps us make several connections:
o The NAME being in the term “Y’shua” shows us the continuity of God’s work throughout history (~4K yrs)
o Y’shua is the literal embodiment in human form of the very person of God
o Y’shua is the means of YHWH carrying out our salvation
o Y’shua is the means by which YHWH fulfilled His covenant with Abram, walking Himself the “Walk of Death” (Genesis 15:17)
• Y’Shua ha Mashiach is the Anointed King and worthy of our allegiance
• Y’Shua ha Mashiach is the autobaselia, the Kingdom in a Person
o There is no other hashem under heaven by which people can be saved: Acts 4:12
o You must enter into Him to enter into the Kingdom

o What still needs to come under His authority?
• Where in your life do you need your Deliverer to break through for you, to set you free?
• Who else do you know needs to know Jesus as their Messiah? Pray for boldness and timing to speak.
• What spiritual forces are arrayed against you? Remember, they must bow to the NAME!
