The Lies We Love: I’m Fine

I’m Fine (But I actually feel overwhelmed)

Where am I supposed to get meat for all these people? They keep whining to me, saying, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ 14 I can’t carry all these people by myself! The load is far too heavy! —Numbers 11:13-14

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. —I Corinthians 10:13

Release Something

If this is how you intend to treat me, just go ahead and kill me. Do me a favor and spare me this misery! Then the Lord said to Moses, “Gather before me seventy men who are recognized as elders and leaders of Israel. Bring them to the Tabernacle to stand there with you. I will come down and talk to you there. I will take some of the Spirit that is upon you, and I will put the Spirit upon them also. They will bear the burden of the people along with you, so you will not have to carry it alone.” —Numbers 11:15-17

My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all of these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.

—Luke 10:41

Rely on Someone

When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked, “What are you really accomplishing here? Why are you trying to do all this alone while everyone stands around you from morning till evening?” Moses replied, “Because the people come to me to get a ruling from God. When a dispute arises, they come to me, and I am the one who settles the case between the quarreling parties. I inform the people of God’s decrees and give them his instructions.” “This is not good!” Moses’ father-in-law exclaimed. —Exodus 18:14-17

“You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself.” —Exodus 18:18

Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ (love God and love people). If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.—Galatians 6:2-3

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. —James 5:16

Rest in His Strength

Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. —Psalm 55:22

Where are you today? We like to say we are fine, but are you really fine? Or are you overwhelmed and barely hanging on?

What can you release and put on your “To Don’t” list? Only you know what that is.
