VISION CREATES CULTURE (Part 2)

Romans 12:9-21

Define culture = “the atmosphere, climate or feeling that is created through the behavior and practices of those in the church and experienced by those who attend.”

Point 1 and 2 (from last week):

  1. Practicing a Lifestyle of Personal Surrender to God
  2. Reflecting an Attitude of Humility

3. Actively Serving Through God-Given Gifts

Romans 12:4–8 (CSB)

Principles About Serving

-We believe every person is gifted to serve in ministry, not a select few.

-We believe serving in ministry is a spiritual responsibility, not an option.

-We believe everyone who serves is a minister, not just a volunteer.

Difference Between Partners and Members

Being a member indicates that the church is something that you join with an expectation of certain services or privileges.

Being a partner is assuming the responsibility of committing, sharing and investing in fulfilling the vision and mission of the church.

Matthew 20:28 (NASB 1995)

4. Pursuing Authentic Sincerity in Relationships

Romans 12:9 -10 (CSB)

Define Hypocrite = “One who wears a mask” and “To play a part”.

Define Sincere = “Being what something appears to be.” and “Having a character which corresponds with the appearance” and “Genuine, true, real” and “Absence of hypocrisy”.

Our faith shapes our attitude toward those who cause
hurt to us.

Romans 12:14 (CSB) “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.”

Define Bless = Greek word is “eulogy” meaning to “speak well of or invoke divine favor.“

Matthew 5:43-44 (NASB 1995)

Our faith prevents us from retaliating toward those who do evil to us.

Romans 12:17 (CSB)

Romans 12:19-21 (CSB)

Define Heaping coals of fire on his head = “To make one painfully aware of their behavior producing remorse.”

Our faith makes us responsible for our responses to those who harm us.

Romans 12:18 (CSB)

Hebrews 12:14 (NIV) “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy.”

Matthew 5:9 (NIV)
