1 Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity And cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, And my sin is ever before me. —Psalm 51:1-3 NASB

“Because it reveals the broken heart of a sinful man who sees his sin clearly.”

David’s repentance is what made him a man after God’s own heart!

So I have to ask myself two hard questions:
1. When was the last time I was broken over my sin?
2. Do I see my sin clearly?

The antidote to sin is the blood of Jesus:

7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. —1 John 1:7 NASB

Our weapon against sin is the Word of God:

11 Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You. —Psalm 119:11 NASB

Our position in relation to the Father is different than David’s.

11 “Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen [anyone] greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. —Matthew 11:11 NASB

17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, [he is] a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. —2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB

1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. —Romans 8:1-2 NASB
