God is All Powerful

Join me in prayer

Last week we discussed how God is good. We looked at a number of verses that talk about this, and why we should trust God because He is good, but just because He is good, is that enough to truly trust Him? I would say to follow good that should be reason enough, but that doesn’t mean it ends well for us. Many have done good or followed good things, but that ended badly.

Ends in defeat

Following a good thing is good, but following a good thing that also means you never lose, why wouldn’t you follow that? If you follow or trust someone or something, you want to win right? You want to be right.

Talk about picking teams and being competitive

The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. —Nahum 1:7

We read this last week, and we discussed how God is good, but we see here that this verse also talks about people take refuge in the Lord. Why does anyone take refuge in someone or something? It is because we believe that they can protect us.

The classic my dad can beat up your dad story. Remember when we were kids and we knew nothing was stronger than our dad? He was invincible. As we get older we lose that faith and innocence.

For nothing will be impossible with God. —Luke 1:37

We see that all things are possible with God. Why, because He can handle it. Think about that, anything is possible. Can you imagine that? Honestly, we can’t. We always have limits, and God works in so many awesome ways, but that only happens because He can make those things happen.

Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. —Psalm 147:5

Abundant in power. I like that, abundant in power. That is my dad, what you got? We are His children, do you rely on Dad to fight your battles, or do you try to do it?

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” —Matthew 19:26

Again the scriptures mention that God can make anything possible. Multiple times the Bible tells us this point. God has it, God can do it, and God always wins.

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. —Colossians 2:13-15

What more impressive thing could it be than how Jesus redeemed us from our sin. That whole event, Jesus being perfect, dying for you and me, being raised from the dead, which last I checked is a constant in life. We will all die, but through Jesus it is possible to die and live eternally with God.

But wait, there are more accounts of how God handles impossible things

Flooding the earth

Creating the earth

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. —1 Chronicles 29:11

Wow, God is above it all, God is the greatest to exist. There is nothing greater than our God, than our Father. Your Father is the greatest in the universe, think about that.

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. —Romans 1:20

The they here is all people see the greatness of God, even if they don’t believe in Him or have a relationship with Him. All of mankind asks the question, why am I here, how did I get here, where did it all start? The answer is God.

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. —Colossians 1:16

Everything starts with God, and it ends with God too.

Is the point made? Do we see clearly how strong, how powerful our God is? Then I have a question for you. Yep, if you were here last week you guessed it. Where do you need God to show up in your life, because you don’t think He can or will? We constantly try to make things happen. Time and time again we see how man will try to do it on our own instead of letting God deal with it.

What about how we try to earn our way into heaven?

And what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. —Ephesians 1:19-21

We see how this ends. God is victorious, end of story. Are you going to end with Him or against Him?
